This was the one I was referring to :) I purchased this one and then found the Puppy Love painting underneath. H.O. Tanner was the first internationally recognized African American painter in the late 1800’s. He was classically and formally schooled in his craft in Philadelphia. Tanner would later move to France to escape daily ridicule from a racist society. France became home, he was recognized and honored with numerous awards and accolades and was the first black artist inducted into the prestigious Paris Salon.
