currently have foster homes in places like Bloomington, Decatur,
Jacksonville, Lincoln and Taylorville. Most are in the Springfield and
Sangamon County area, but we have been branching out.

APL has a limited number of kennels and clinic runs...nowhere near
enough to house all of the animals in need of care. We rely heavily on
foster homes untill we either have available space or until permanent
homes are found for our dogs and cats.

All medical care, including vaccinations, is provided by an APL vet.

She just needs a little help from someone with a calm friendly dog and almost all I come across are unstable, wild, aggressive or pushy and this just makes the problem worse so we can't interact. A dog park would be way too much for her right now..

If you live in the Clinton area I would be interested in arranging a meeting. I walk her every day and perhaps we could walk together. I would love to see her relax, learn some social skills and show her that not every dog is going to flip her over and tear her apart.

Two are Himalayans and two are purebred Maine Coons with papers.

We would love to keep them all, but unfortunately, Bob & Leo, the two Maine Coons,
are not happy in our home and, after four months, we're considering placing them
in the right forever home. The boys, a Classic Brown Tabby and a Mackerel
Red-Cream(?) Tabby, are 18 and 14 lbs. respectively, 7 yrs. old, neutered,
front-declawed, ID chipped, on Advantage,
and very healthy. They do have pedigrees, but I don't believe were ever actually
registered, and we have tried, but were unable to contact their breeder.

The are good with dogs and female cats, but will bully timid animals, even a
dog. We do not mind giving them to a home with dog(s) but we would strongly
prefer they go to a home without other cats. They do everything as a pair;
eating, sleeping, and playing. They even seem to have their own language, like
"twin talk." They are very chatty with people and both love to be held, cuddled,
and carried like babies. If you can handle the weight, they will even let you
hold both of them together in your arms and will purr outrageously. We groom
them regularly and they both enjoy it as a way of bonding with us; they will
both sit with you while being groomed and clean one another at the same time.
You've never seen two kitties who love each other so much.

They are not, however, low-maintenance. They were loved and doted upon their
entire lives and demand a lot of attention. If they don't get enough attention,
they bully the other pets, which is our only problem with them. They are clearly
grieving the loss of their human companion, and I'm sure their neediness is as a
result of that, but with five other cats and a dog, plus two full-time jobs, we
can't give them any more than we already do.

Bob & Leo are not in any danger. They will not be given to a shelter, abandoned,
euthanized, or put outside. They will stay with us indefinitely until the right
home is found, although we have considered placing them with a reputable
purebred rescue.

Under no circumstances can these boys be separated; they must go to a home
together. We prefer that you travel to meet them here (Chicago), as cats always
do better in their home environment, but will consider transportation for the
right adopters.

We have numerous pictures available of them and would be happy to correspond
with anyone interested in adopting. They are very, very easy to love, and we are
parting with them only for their own happiness and the happiness of our other
